RESEARCH SCHOLARS’ WORKSHOP
Department of Sociology
Delhi School of Economics
University of Delhi
26-27 March 2015
A two-day Research Scholars Workshop (RSW) for PhD students was held on 26 and 27 March, 2015. A bi-annual event organised by the Department of Sociology, the workshop encourages research scholars from the department to share their ongoing research work with both faculty and the peer group. This year, we held separate workshops for M.Phil and PhD students, where scholars presented aspects of their research work in-progress. Faculty members discussed the main arguments of the presentations and offered comments and suggestions. Other research scholars participated in the workshop as session chairs and in the audience.
There was an effort, at the March workshop, to collaborate with the Centre for Human and Social Sciences (CSH) which is part of a network of 27 research centres of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in New Delhi. Dr Jules Naudet, Head of the Politics and Society Research Area at the CSH, participated in the workshop as a discussant while one of their affiliated PhD students presented his research findings. A PhD scholar from the National University of Singapore also presented her initial fieldwork findings at the workshop.
The research scholars deeply benefitted from the rich discussion around their research that not only helped them to defend and better articulate their findings but also enabled them to look at their research from different perspectives.
