Admission Procedure for M.A. 2018-19

Method of Admission

In keeping with the new regulations introduced by the University of Delhi with effect from the academic year 2018-19, applications can be submitted only via the University of Delhi PG Admissions Portal once it is activated.

The admission to the M.A. Programme in Sociology will be in two streams. 50% of total seats are reserved for graduates of the B.A. (H) Sociology course in Delhi University, who will be admitted in order of merit. The remaining 50% of seats will be filled according to performance in an Entrance Test which will be conducted by the University of Delhi at up to 18 centres across India.

Any seats left unfilled in either stream will be filled by eligible applicants from the other stream in order of merit. All candidates must meet prescribed eligibility requirements, with relaxations and concessions where relevant. (There is no interview for M.A. Admission).

Requirements for Admission

Academic qualifications: Eligibility will be determined in accordance with academic qualifications listed below. Equivalence of degrees of universities other than that of the University of Delhi will be determined in accordance with the rules in force. Applicants must have completed 15 years of formal education under the 10+2+3 scheme or its equivalent at the time of admission.

(A) Eligibility for Direct Admission (Without Entrance Test)

Candidates who have obtained B+ (a CGPA of 7) or 55% or more marks in the B.A. (H) Sociology examination of the University of Delhi.  (Please note that only candidates who secure B+ (CGPA of 7) or 55% or more are eligible, in order of merit, for Direct Admission without the Entrance Test. All others must take the Test;

In the event of a tie the following will be used as a tie breaker:

(i) entrance test marks

if the tie persists, then:

(ii) school leaving marks

It is highly recommended that all candidates take the entrance examinations.  Candidates who choose not to appear in the Entrance Test do so at their own risk.

(B) Eligibility for Admission through Entrance Test

At least B (a CPGA of 6) or 50% from the University of Delhi or an equivalent CGPA in any Graduate/Post - graduate degree in any subject from any Indian University recognised by the University of Delhi.

Relaxations/concessions for categories other than the General Category are laid down in the Information Bulletin of Delhi University. 

Admission Test:

1. All eligible candidates will have to take an admission test conducted by the Department of Sociology, on the basis of which a consolidated merit list will be prepared. Admission will be strictly based on merit.

2. Eligibility requirements for SC/ST/OBC candidates will be according to UGC/Delhi University/ Supreme Court guidelines.

3. The pass marks for general category students in the admission test is minimum 50% O.B.C. 45%, SC/ST 40%
