Brief Introduction: Preeti Sampat, M.A. (State University of New York, Binghamton), M. Phil., Ph.D. (City University of New York, NYC) is Research Associate in Sociology. Her research interests include legal anthropology, anthropology of infrastructure, urbanization, real estate, land rights, social movements, democracy and capital. Her doctoral work was a legal anthropological examination of the policy genesis and evolution of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in India at the national level, and their failure in implementation in Goa on account of popular resistance. Preeti is currently working on land rights within Special Investment Regions and Smart City initiatives along the Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor. She is also working on a manuscript on infrastructure, urbanization and land rights in India. She is the author of Economic Globalization Today (2003). Her work has been published in The Journal of Peasant Studies, City and Society, Law Environment and Development Journal, Economic and Political Weekly and other edited volumes. She has written on policy issues in Yojana and national dailies.
