Brief Introduction:Poonam Bala, M.Phil. (JNU), Ph.D.(University of Edinburgh, UK). Her research interests include social history of medicine; medical sociology Alternative medicine and colonial history; Policy, health and medicine; Race, gender and health; South Asian history, and Diaspora studies. She is the author of Imperialism and Medicine in Bengal: A socio-historical Perspective (1991), Medicine and Medical Policies in India: Social and Historical Perspectives (2007), and Diaspora, Culture and Identity: Asian Indians in America (2015). She is the editor of Biomedicine as a Contested Site: Some Revelations in Imperial Contexts (2009), Contesting Colonial Authority: Medicine and Indigenous Responses in 19th- and 20th- century India (2012), also Contesting Colonial Authority: Medicine and Indigenous Responses in 19th- and 20th- century India (South Asian edition, 2015), and Medicine and Colonialism: Historical Perspectives in India and South Africa (2014).
