Brief Introduction

Roma Chatterji, M.A. (Delhi), M.Phil. (Hyderabad), Ph.D. (Delhi) was Professor in Department of Sociology. Her research interests include illness narratives, the sociology of art and folklore. She is the author of Writing Identities: Folklore and the Performing Arts of Purulia (2009), Speaking with Pictures: Folk Art and the Narrative Imagination in India (2012, 2016) and Graphic Narratives and the Mythological Imagination in India (2020); co-author (with Deepak Mehta) of Living with Violence: An Anthropology of Events and Everyday Life (2007) and co-editor (with Deepak Mehta) of Riot Discourses (2007). She is also the editor of Wording the World: Veena Das and Scenes of Inheritance (2015).

Professor Chatterji retired in 2021.
