One of the country’s most eminent sociologists and a former faculty member of the Department of Sociology, Prof. J.P.S. Uberoi has inaugurated a unique approach in the study of Indian sociology and social anthropology. He makes a case for independent Indian sociology in response to Gandhi’s call for Swaraj in thought. “Mind and Society” highlights his pioneering scholarship and brings together eighteen papers originally written by him between 1968 and 2013. The volume represents an emphatic statement by the author that the time has come for India to bid for its place in the universal free world of the intellect.
