Brief Introduction: Tulsi Patel, M.A. (Jodhpur), M.Phil., Ph.D. (Delhi), is Professor of Sociology. Her research interests are demographic anthropology and gender, medical sociology, anthropology of reproduction and knowledge systems, family, kinship and gender, and aging. She is the author of Fertility Behaviour: Population and Society in a Rajasthan Village (1994, second edition 2006) and editor of The Family in India: Structure and Practice (2005) and Sex-selective Abortion in India (2007). She has coedited with Baviskar, B S. Understanding Indian Society: Past and Present (2010), She is currently working on marriage, family, and gender; and panchayati raj institutions and reproductive issues, especially surrogacy, and female selective abortion.
